The short version
The timer works fully offline. Your tasks, sessions, and settings are stored only in your browser unless you choose to sign in.
Signing in is optional and only unlocks the Friends feature (leaderboard, live status, syncing sessions across devices).
We never sell your data, run ads, or share anything with third-party advertisers.
There's no self-serve "delete my account" button yet — email us and we'll do it by hand.
What this is
Pomodoro Ledger is a Chrome extension: a focus timer that automatically logs
completed work sessions against your tasks and goals. That's its whole job.
An optional "Friends" feature lets you sign in with Google to sync your
sessions to a small backend and see friends' status on a shared
leaderboard — nothing about the timer itself requires it.
Information the extension accesses, and why
Chrome requires every permission a browser extension requests to be justified. Here's what each one is actually for:
storage
Keeps your settings, tasks, and session history in your browser (chrome.storage.local) so they persist between uses. This never leaves your device unless you sign in.
alarms
Runs the focus/break timer, daily reminder nudges, and a few background checks that need to fire even while the popup is closed.
notifications
Tells you when a timer finishes, a reminder is due, or a friend accepts a challenge — moments that happen while you're not looking at the popup.
identity
Used only for "Sign in with Google." Nothing else reads your Google account.
If you choose to sign in
Signing in is entirely optional. If you do, here's precisely what happens
and what's stored on our server (a small AWS-hosted backend we run
ourselves — not a third party):
→Your Google sign-in passes your email address through once, to suggest a username. We don't store the email itself — only the username and an opaque Google account identifier, so signing in again recognizes you.
→We issue an authentication token (a random string) so your browser stays signed in. It's stored locally and sent with each request — it isn't a password and can't be reversed into one.
→Focus sessions you sync: a timestamp, a task label, and the number of minutes. That's what powers your leaderboard rank and streak.
→Your username and, if you add friends, which of them you're connected to.
→A live "focusing now / on a break" status, only while the popup is open, so friends can see it in real time. It clears the moment you close the popup.
What we don't collect
Health, medical, or fitness data of any kind
Payment, financial, or billing information — there's no real-money system anywhere in this extension
Personal messages, emails, or chat content
Your location, region, or IP-derived whereabouts for any feature
Your browsing history or the content of other websites — the extension has no permission to read other pages at all
Anything for advertising, and there are no ads
Who sees it
Nobody but you. We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third
parties, and we don't use it for anything beyond running the features
described above — no analytics resale, no ad networks, no data brokers.
The only "sharing" that happens by design is the part you asked for:
friends you've added can see your leaderboard stats and live status.
Your choices
Sign out anytime from Setup — that clears your local session immediately.
Remove a friend anytime from the Friends list in Setup — it's undone
instantly and symmetrically on both accounts. Uninstalling the extension
deletes everything stored locally.
There's no self-service "delete my account" button in the product yet.
To have your account and synced data permanently deleted from our
backend, email us and we'll remove it by hand, usually within a few days.
Children's privacy
This extension isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't
knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it changes, this page will be updated
and the effective date above will change with it.
