EFFECTIVE 7 SEP 2026 · APPLIES TO THE CHROME EXTENSION "POMODORO LEDGER"
The short version
The timer works fully offline. Your tasks, sessions, and settings are stored only in your browser unless you choose to sign in.
Signing in is optional and unlocks Friends (leaderboard, live status) plus syncing across devices — which includes the notes you write in the app, not just your session times.
We never sell your data, run ads, or share anything with third-party advertisers.
There's no self-serve "delete my account" button yet — email us and we'll do it by hand.
What this is
Pomodoro Ledger is a Chrome extension: a focus timer that automatically logs
completed work sessions against your tasks and goals. That's its whole job.
An optional "Friends" feature lets you sign in with Google to sync your
sessions to a small backend and see friends' status on a shared
leaderboard — nothing about the timer itself requires it.
Information the extension accesses, and why
Chrome requires every permission a browser extension requests to be justified. Here's what each one is actually for:
storage
Keeps your settings, tasks, and session history in your browser (chrome.storage.local) so they persist between uses. This never leaves your device unless you sign in.
alarms
Runs the focus/break timer, daily reminder nudges, and a few background checks that need to fire even while the popup is closed.
notifications
Tells you when a timer finishes, a reminder is due, or a friend accepts a challenge — moments that happen while you're not looking at the popup.
identity
Used only for "Sign in with Google." Nothing else reads your Google account.
If you choose to sign in
Signing in is entirely optional. If you do, here's precisely what happens
and what's stored on our server (a small AWS-hosted backend we run
ourselves — not a third party):
→Your Google sign-in passes your email address through once, to suggest a username. We don't store the email itself — only the username and an opaque Google account identifier, so signing in again recognizes you.
→We issue an authentication token (a random string) so your browser stays signed in. It's stored locally and sent with each request — it isn't a password and can't be reversed into one.
→Focus sessions you sync: a timestamp, the task it was logged against, and the number of minutes. That's what powers your leaderboard rank and streak.
→Anything you write in the app. If you use the recall prompt, spaced review, expeditions, or daily commitments, the words you type are synced too, so they reach your other devices: what you recalled after a session and your self-grade, your task names and checklists, expedition titles and the outcome / obstacle / plan you wrote for them, and the daily pledge you set — including the note you write about why a missed day was missed.
→Your username and, if you add friends, which of them you're connected to. If you start a duel or join a squad, the challenge and the shared goal are stored with the handles of everyone in it.
→If you plan an upcoming session, the time you picked, how long it runs, and the topic you typed for it - plus which of your friends said they'd join. A plan is deleted automatically a few hours after it was due to start.
→A live "focusing now / on a break" status, only while the popup is open, so friends can see it in real time. It clears the moment you close the popup.
What we don't collect
Health, medical, or fitness data of any kind
Payment, financial, or billing information — there's no real-money system anywhere in this extension
Personal messages, emails, or chat content
Your location, region, or IP-derived whereabouts for any feature
Your browsing history or the content of other websites — the extension has no permission to read other pages at all
Anything for advertising, and there are no ads
Who sees it
We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third parties, and we don't
use it for anything beyond running the features described above — no
analytics resale, no ad networks, no data brokers.
The only sharing that happens by design is the part you asked for, and
it's worth being precise about how far it goes:
Friends you've added see your username, your leaderboard
standing, your streak, and your live "focusing now / on a break"
status while your popup is open.
A duel opponent sees the focus time you log for the duration
of that challenge. Squad members see each other's contribution
toward the shared goal, and the personal pledge each has set.
Friends see any upcoming session you plan - its time, length
and the topic you typed - and can say they'll join it. You see how many
people are joining, not who they are.
An accountability partner, if you set one, can see your daily
pledge, whether you met it, and the note you wrote about a missed day.
Nobody sees what you write for yourself. Your recall notes,
self-grades, task checklists, and the outcome / obstacle / plan on your
expeditions are synced so they follow you across devices — they are
never shown to friends, opponents, squads, or anyone else.
Your choices
Sign out anytime from Setup — that clears your local session immediately.
Remove a friend anytime from the Friends list in Setup — it's undone
instantly and symmetrically on both accounts. Uninstalling the extension
deletes everything stored locally.
There's no self-service "delete my account" button in the product yet.
To have your account and synced data permanently deleted from our
backend, email us and we'll remove it by hand, usually within a few days.
Children's privacy
This extension isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't
knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it changes, this page will be updated
and the effective date above will change with it.
